Standard tests

Standard tests relating to PPE can include efficacy testing for items with an antimicrobial or antiviral claim to ensure that the item functions as intended. For items that come into direct contact with users, biocompatibility testing may also be required to demonstrate that the materials are not harmful to humans.

Customised testing

Standard tests are used for regulatory approval and to ensure that similar products are performing at comparable levels. However, sometimes standards do not reflect the real-world use of a product or, for novel products, there may not be a relevant standard. Our scientists have worked with customers to design experiments that replicate the real-world situation as closely as possible.
