Virologica offers microbiological testing to support a wide range of industries with their product innovation. Recently, we were approached by a customer with a new range of kitchen products made from sustainable, plant-based materials.

They were concerned that adventitious bacteria – bioburden – may accumulate on their product over time. With access to representative samples, Virologica investigated several suitable recovery methods – including sample collection sponges, swabbing and contact plates.

Having demonstrated the best recovery method for their sample type, we were able to estimate the bioburden on this product over time and give the customer the clear data they needed to drive their innovation.
